The DHCR24 gene has been mapped to chromosome 1p32.3, a region commonly amplified in HCC and which may contribute to carcinogenesis (Yuan et al., 2003; Endo et al., 2009). Recently, two abnormal lipid metabolism mutations, Q88L and R311H, were identified in the DHCR24 gene in Korean HCC patients (Ahn et al., 2014). Further, overexpression of DHCR24 is a hallmark of prostate cancer, with high levels observed in low-grade prostate cancer, but diminishing as the cancer progresses (Bonaccorsi et al., 2008), and Proto-oncogene is also overexpressed during non-muscle-invasive urothelial carcinoma progression (Lee et al., 2014).
